This commission began with a Britool spanner, an object rich with personal history and meaning. Conceived as an anniversary gift, the brief called for something both unexpected and deeply considered: a reimagining of a familiar tool into a precious, enduring form.

The final piece takes the shape of a traditional cantilever-style case, scaled to the proportions of a classic soap box. Within it rests a hand-crafted silver replica of the original spanner, carefully translated into a new material language while retaining its character and presence.

The box is elevated on a section of whisky barrel stave, introducing a quiet contrast between materials while grounding the piece in a sense of place. This element offers a subtle nod to the client’s home and heritage, anchoring the work within a broader cultural and personal landscape.

Balancing utility with sentiment, the work explores ideas of transformation—where an industrial object becomes an intimate keepsake. It reflects a dialogue between heritage, craftsmanship, and personal narrative, resulting in a piece that is both unique and quietly powerful.
