Artist Statement
I am a studio silversmith based in Scotland, working at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary form. My practice explores the relationships between body, land, and material, drawing inspiration from the textures, gestures, and rhythms of the Scottish landscape. I create sculptural and functional silver objects that embody fluidity, connection, and a deep sense of place. Trained at the Edinburgh College of Art and through a traineeship with Hamilton & Inches, I specialise in traditional techniques such as hand-raising, repoussé, chasing, and engraving. These processes allow me to respond intuitively to the metal, with each mark carrying the memory of movement and time.
Currently Artist in Residence at The Smiddy on Scotland’s northeast coast, I balance my personal practice with teaching, community engagement, and mentoring. I am passionate about supporting emerging makers and widening access to the craft, particularly for disadvantaged young people. Whether I am working on jewellery or larger sculptural pieces, my work seeks to hold both meaning and memory, crafted objects that invite quiet interaction and lasting connection.
My artistic practice intertwines the human form and nature, drawing inspiration from Scotland's captivating landscapes. Through silversmithing, photography, and mixed media, I create visual and textural experiences that celebrate the fluidity of existence and foster connections between the viewer and the natural world.
Silversmithing is central to my work, where I transform metal into expressive forms that reflect organic shapes. My training at Edinburgh College of Art and my traineeship at Hamilton and Inches have equipped me with the technical skills necessary to bring my artistic vision to life as well as further deepening my understanding of traditional silversmithing techniques, adding another layer to my artistic journey. Additionally, I use photography and mixed media to capture light and texture, enriching the narratives within my art.
At its heart, my practice is a celebration of making: of holding heritage in the hand, and shaping it into something newly felt and enduring.
